Class FAQs

  1. In Person classes in Houston and Springs, TX will follow CDC/local guidelines to prevent Covid-19.
  2. All teaching staff members are fully vaccinated and trained to operate during the pandemic.

Zoom Classes for K-12 (private or Group)

  1. Private lessons: group of more than 2 can be added on special permission.
  2. Group classes: have max. of 6 students.
  3. All Zoom classes are available in PST/CST/EST zones on Sundays at 10am.
  4. All Zoom classes must adhere to online guidelines and etiquettes.
  5. Accepting registration from Virginia and Maryland.

Class FAQs

    1. Who is the teacher (Qualification)?
      We have qualified and trained Urdu language teachers from North America. All of our staff members are from native countries where Urdu is spoken or is the official language. The majority of our teachers are also trained in the US by ACTFL, StarTalk, or other affiliate institutions.
    2. Technology needs
      Phone (Android / iPhone) with Urdu keyboard activated.
      Zoom on your laptop/desktop/or any device and the phone you plan to use for classwork.
    3. What will I learn in class?
      Learn how to type/text Urdu script on your phone keyboard.
      Write small or short sentences.
      Write usual or everyday greetings and conversations.
    4. Who can join in this class
      1 Month (8 hours) track is for students who know how to read and write Urdu.
      2 Months (16 hours) track is for students who only know spoken Urdu.

    Mukhtarunnisa Zaidi

    Class Teacher

    Mukhtarunnisa Zaidi is a native Urdu speaker, born and raised in Pakistan. She has been involved with teaching and educational programs surrounding Urdu for 30 years in Pakistan and the United States. She has worked in both nonprofit organizations and private schools. She is currently teaching with the Indus Arts Council as well as teaching private lessons to students.

    Talat Awais

    Class Teacher

    Talat Awais is a native Urdu speaker, born in Pakistan. She has over 30 years of experience in teaching and building educational programs in both private and non-profit institutions.  She is the Language Program Director for Indus Arts Council’s Urdu program.

    Zaitoon Dada

    Class Teacher

    Zaitoon Dada, a native Urdu speaker, has been an instructor, organizer, and teacher of language for over 20 years. She began teaching Urdu with Indus Arts in 2012 and went on to join StarTalk’s Urdu program since 2015, She has been teaching the language to students in Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

    Safia Hashim

    Class Teacher

    Safia Hashim is a native Urdu speaker born in Pakistan. She has been involved with teaching educational programs around Urdu for 25 years in Pakistan and the United States. Safia has attended many Startalk teacher training workshops, such as at ACTFL in 2018 and 2021. In Pakistan, she received a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Karachi.

    Samina Kasim

    Class Teacher

    Samina Kasim has been passionate about teaching in the field of education since graduation. She had been blessed with the opportunity to teach at the most prestigious school in Pakistan, Karachi Grammar School. She is fluent in Urdu and English.

    Batool Moin is a native Urdu and Punjabi speaker, and she has been involved in the teaching of Urdu language and Pakistani culture in Texas through the Indus Art Council, teaching students of different ages.
