Urdu For Adults

Our Urdu learning program is called Pervaaz. Pervaaz means “to fly” or “flight”. Our approach involves taking a virtual flight and journey into Pakistan’s arts, history, heritage, and culture to learn the Urdu language in context. The term “flight” also represents the remarkable progress in learning achieved in just four weeks of our immersive curriculum.

Our Curriculum

Learning Urdu to develop professional empathy

Learning the language and culture of your clients, colleagues, patients, and friends develops empathy. Empathy allows one to build social connections, regulate emotions, and promote helping behavior. The Urdu language curriculum for adults focuses on conversational Urdu. Our lessons for adult students are tailored to meet their specific requirements and goals for learning the Urdu language. We also offer writing instruction for students upon request. We constantly assess progress and measure proficiency. Each lesson is carefully crafted to promote engagement and culminates with a presentation at the end of the unit. Visual aids are frequently incorporated to enrich the students’ learning experience.

Once students register for the semester, they are required to take an oral proficiency interview (OPI). The OPI evaluates their proficiency level in the target language, which is necessary to ensure they begin learning at the appropriate level and don’t feel like they’ve missed important information. With this knowledge, teachers gradually increase the students’ language vocabulary through scaffolding.

Our teachers

Our teachers are native Urdu speakers and possess a high level of proficiency in Urdu language, including a strong command of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural nuances. They  understand teaching methodologies based on ACTFL standards of teaching foreign languages such as immersive, task-based learning, and scaffolding.

Language teaching is not just about vocabulary and grammar; it’s also about imparting cultural insights and fostering cross-cultural understanding. Our teachers are well versed in the Pakistani heritage and culture and the diaspora communities in the U.S. They have an extensive background and experience in teaching at school districts, colleges, and universities around the world.
